It seemed like ages since Dimitri had last had a day off. Technically, he didn't even have today off. He had a few hours off. The office had been so busy lately that weekends had become non-existent. Between trying to stifle the upsurge of dark magical activity, and do so discretely enough so that the already suspicious muggles wouldn't become any more suspicious every Auror in the Department of magical law enforcement was doomed to almost non-stop work with little or no break to speak of. Dimitri was expected to be either in the office looking for signs of dark activity, or in the field stopping it from seven am, until 8pm, and then on call twenty-four hours a day. Well, the twenty-four hour part was always expected, but the difference now was that he was actually getting calls at three or four in the morning from his boss asking him to go handle situations. It was exhausting. And Dimitri's only saving grace was that he actually enjoyed his job.

Somehow he had managed to argue his way into a couple free hours today. It was the first Hogsmeade visit for students at Hogwarts and Dimitri's mother had been badgering him to check up on his youngest sister, Amelie, for a few weeks now. Not only had he not had the time, but Dimitri doubted if Amelie wanted to talk to him. She hated when he got all over-protective, and he knew it. But doing his mother's bidding wasn't the only reason Dimitri wanted to make sure Amelie was okay. Seeing as who the scum she hung around with was, there was a good chance Amelie was getting the wrong ideas about magic and the world. But Dimitri didn't know how else to help her. He'd tried telling her the horrible things he saw every day, appealing to every emotion he thought she had, even showing her what happened when people chose the wrong side. But she remained as stubborn as ever. Today he'd bated her with a firewhiskey. He said he'd buy her one if she just showed up and chatted for a few minutes because he knew she'd never come if there wasn't anything good in it for her. Being lectured wasn't exactly fun, and even though he wasn't exactly trying to do that, he knew that was how he'd come off to Amelie.

Just to be sure he wouldn't miss her, Dimitri had gotten there early...or as early as possible. He'd ordered himself a butterbeer and stood, leaning on the bar as he looked for a table. It was packed today, as it always was on the Hogwarts visiting days, and from where he was standing, it didn't look as though any of the tables were open. The buzz of conversation in the room was so thick that he could hardly distinguish one voice from another, but the clumps closest to him were easier to pick apart. Dimitri had become accustomed to taking in his surroundings as a whole in great detail. It was very important while he was on the job and after a while it just became habit, and he usually picked up on things that few others would notice. For instance, Dimitri doubted whether any of the rowdy students in the pub had noticed the table of sour looking witches in the center of the room, glaring around at them, presumably because they were making too much noise. It must have been a much different place in the Three Broomsticks when it wasn't Hogsmeade weekend. Not a few minutes later, the women had abandoned their table and sulked out, stiffing the bartender as they went.

Dimitri swooped over to take their table. It had a decent view of the door, but his sister was still MIA. Dimitri hunched over the table, continuing to absentmindedly listen in on the surrounding conversations. Beside him seemed to be a group of hormonal girls; their shrill voices almost overshadowed those of everyone else around them. But at the table in front of Dimitri was a group of boys, talking about the latest headlines concerning the muggle exposure. It always interest Dimitri to see what the public knew. Not only were the rumors usually hilarious, but he sometimes forgot how much of a difference it made that he worked in an office that provided him with more information on the dark magic/muggle clash than he could ever hope to know.

Alex had been long waiting for a chance to leave the school grounds, despite that he wasn't able to escape into the Muggle World. It was good enough for him, however. He had obviously never been to Hogsmeade, and didn't understand what the ruckus was about until he had actually gotten there. The sweets at Honeydukes were delicious, and the Quidditch supplies, though he wasn't interested in Quidditch, or absolutely fascinating. The small village was crowded with bustling students as girls giggled about their latest gossip and males fawned over the newest and finest Quidditch supplies. And however out of place he felt, he didn't feel too out of place. He tried to just compare it to being at a Mall.

He had no intention of staying long, however. The more students surrounding him, the more overwhelmed he felt. People were pushing past him in lines and Alex didn't have the guts to speak up for himself. So instead, he walked out into the streets and sat a bench by himself for a short while. He began to people watch. He probably could have thought of a million better things to do, but this would be last action in Hogsmeade until the next visit, when he may come here with Lysander, if he could convince the boy to come with him. Smiling to himself as he watched the students pass by, he heard a girl yelp with excitement, "The firewhisky at The Three Broomsticks is to die for!" Suddenly, Alex became curious. Firewhisky? It sounded like an alcoholic beverage, but if there was a virgin kind, Alex would be more than willing to give it a shot. After hearing a rather long conversation about the simple drink, Alex could no longer resist. He had to give it a try.

If his parents knew that he was taking an interest in anything magical, his father would never let it down and begin to question his loyalty to the Muggles. Ignoring the sudden sensation of guilt, Alex walked into the overcrowded pub. Immediately upon entrance, his eyes caught sight of someone very unfamiliar - and someone who must not have been a Hogwarts student. He was sitting at a table in the very center, by himself. Chills ran down his spine as he waited in line to make his order. He quickly looked away and stared at the floor. Could he be a police officer for the wizarding world? What if he knows? What if he finds out? I have to leave... but if I leave so quickly, he'll grow even more suspicious! I have to stay calm. But that was easier said than done.

After ordering his beverage, he left the counter only to realize that he needed to find a place to sit. He could certainly simply leave the shop, but wouldn't that also look suspicious? Alex tentatively looked around to see if there were any seats open, only to find that the table in the center with the mysterious police officer was the only available spot. Taking a deep breath, Alex walked towards the table and pulled the chair out from across the table. "Do you... mind if I sit... here?" He must have sounded ridiculous between his words, for he was too nervous to even speak fluently. Smiling weakly, he pulled the chair out farther and sat down. "I promise I won't be long."

Alex stared at the table, barely sipping his whiskey, as he suddenly regretted sitting down. Sitting down as like an invitation for question of why he was there, and although it would have been a simple question, Alex wasn't exactly in the perfect condition for conversation. Instead, he kept his eyes focused on the floor as he awkwardly sipped his drink, nearly spilling it on his shirt in the process. But the drink was good, as he shot down the rest of it in one sip, only to find himself coughing as a result of drinking too quickly. Alex was a nervous wreck, and found himself asking the man across the table a question either way. "You aren't a student here, are you?" The answer was obvious, but Alex was far more interested in finding out what it was he did exactly.

If he was a police officer, or whatever the term may be in the wizarding world, Alex might possibly faint from exhaustion and anxiety. If he wasn't, then he would simply sweat the stress off and attempt to be a gentleman in the process. Either way, he had no intention of being rude to the man who had allowed him to sit at his table that he had rightly claimed.

As much as the little bell above the door to the pub was tinkling with people going in and out, Dimitri had still not spotted his sister. And with the bright red hair she was a little hard to miss. He took another sip of his butterbeer, discreetly glancing at a clock on the other side of the room as he swallowed. Any minute she was supposed to be here. Dimitri looked over at the door again but instead of his sister, he saw a boy walk in. Perhaps it had only been because Dimitri was looking in his direction, or maybe because he was sitting alone at a table, clearly not fitting in with the rest of the teenagers in the room, but the look this boy gave Dimitri set off all kinds of alarm bells. There was an anxiety in his expression that practically screamed 'I shouldn't be here.' Dimitri was no stranger to suspicious activity. And this kid was textbook suspicious. He looked away from Dimitri quickly, so Dimitri turned his head away as well. Maybe the poor guy was nervous before he walked in. But Dimitri distinctly saw the kid's gaze intensify as it fell on him. And Dimitri had done nothing to provoke this except make eye contact.

He tried to shrug it off, remembering that he wasn't even here on duty today. But a little voice in the back of his head scolded him...reminding him that he was always on duty. The best leads came when he was least suspecting them. They didn't wait around until Dimitri was on the clock. He looked back up at the bar. The kid was facing the bartender presumably ordering what he came in here for...or what he wanted it to look like he came in here for. Whoever he was, he hadn't been expecting to see Dimitri. He was practically squirming in his shoes. Dimitri could see the gears turning in his head as he stood there uncomfortably, probably assuming that he was being watched. The auror looked away again. He hadn't gotten a good look at the kids face from the door, so he couldn't be sure, but he didn't think he remembered him from anywhere. He would have to find a way to get a better look at him before he left. He'd follow him if he had to.

Because of all the chatter, Dimitri couldn't hear as far as the bar. And since he wasn't looking up, attempting not to draw attention to himself, he didn't realize that the boy had walked directly up to his table. Dimitri met his eyes as he spoke, positively intrigued by the apparent determination of this kid. For him to come up and strike up a conversation was the last thing Dimitri had been expecting after how he'd acted at the mere site of him. Dimitri nodded with a half-smile in response. "Yea, be my guest." He said casually. He watched as the boy sat down, neglecting to make eye contact as he sipped timidly at his drink, a firewhiskey. Dimitri doubted whether he was old enough to actually purchase one legally, but reprimanding him for underage drinking seemed less pressing a matter than figuring out exactly what was going on behind that nervous facade. Had Amelie sent him in to mess with Dimitri's head? Somehow he doubted that she would have even bothered. Dimitri watched silently with amusement dancing in his critical eye as the kid took a huge swig of firewhiskey and choked on it. His mouth would be on fire in about five minutes. Firewhiskey was not something you chugged...

He didn't look up as he spoke and Dimitri's half-smile returned. He had thought for a moment that he wasn't going to say anything at all. "No, no I'm not." He said nodding. "I'm, eh, waiting for my sister. You might know her...Amelie? Slytherin? She's supposed to meet me, but..." he glanced over the boy's shoulder at the clock again. "...as she hasn't shown up yet, I suspect she won't be coming at all." He'd deliberately neglected to mention the part about him being an auror. That wasn't something Dimitri liked spreading around. Being so obviously for the "good" side" meant that he was pitted against about 75% of the human population automatically, wizard or muggle. Obviously all the muggles were against him...that was about 60% and by now a little less than half of the wizarding population was voting to have the muggles exterminated, so he was against them too. "You go to Hogwarts then I guess?" Dimitri said, leaning back in his chair and sipping lightly on his butterbeer. "What's your name?" He followed up, his voice a little more pointed. He hadn't meant to sound any more intimidating than he obviously already was, but it was such a direct question that it was almost unavoidable. But he was determined to figure this kid out, and the best place to start was a name.

Despite that he hadn't answered his question, Alex had barely noticed, as his focus was directed on why he was there. He was waiting for his sister, Amelie. Alex tried to recognize the name, but nothing came to mind. He hadn't been there very long, so it was no surprise, and if she were a Slytherin, he probably hadn't crossed paths with her. Shaking his head, a sudden sensation became to erupt in his mouth. Alex didn't mind spicy or hot foods, or drinks, but this was a little much. Biting on his tongue to keep from bolting back to the counter to demand for water, Alex grabbed his seat and held on with a tight grip to ignore the sensation. He shouldn't have chugged the beverage down. That, and he shouldn't have ordered an alcoholic beverage. He was surprised that the bartender had given it to him, but with all the bustle of students, he must not have been paying much attention to what he was doing. Alex was quickly regretting it.

"I am new to the school, so I am not yet familiar with a lot of the students." Alex said with a small smile as he was finally able to calm himself down from the drink and look at the man from across the table. It didn't surprise him that he hadn't said his name first, although asked Alex for his. Alex had prepared himself for the day that he may meet someone like him, but now that it was actually happening, he had forgotten most of the rules his father and the King had explained to him. However, there was one thing Alex was determined to follow: don't let anybody know who you are.

Muggle-born children were not uncommon at Hogwarts, however, as a spy for the Muggles, it was a completely different situation. Alex was hesitant to share his name, and in fact, was thinking of making it up. If he were, what would he say? Gregory Jacobson. But the guilt of lying to anybody who had shown him enough kindness to allow him to sit at the table would be overwhelming, much like his other emotions, and therefore he would have to admit that he lied about his name. And that would cause even more suspicion, for why would he need to lie about his name if he weren't hiding anything? He was going to keep things simple and tell him the truth.

"Alexander... Smith," he said hesitantly, before giving him a weak smile. "And yours?" Alex was eager to know his name as well, for he needed to warn the other three of their meeting. Alex's nerves were erupting - they hadn't quite ceased yet. The casual attitude that he was presenting was making Alex even more nervous, for he figured that the man must have been slightly suspicious of him, while being incredibly confident at the same time. Setting his glass aside, Alex leaned forward and folded his hands on the table. He, too, was trying to emit this confidence. Whether or not he fell for it was up for questioning, but Alex kept a straight face. Unfortunately, his heart was beating twice as fast as normal and his mind was rushing with devastating images of what he could do to Alex should he find out.

Then Alex began to think. What would happen? Would he be sent to a Wizarding prison? He has heard stories about Azkaban from some of the students, and its stories were incredibly nerve-wracking. It seemed that the prison was torture and there were beasts inside that ate your soul and emotions. Or would they immediately send you to your death? What kind of death would it be? Alex presumed it might be some sort of magical torture - the most vivid of images he had was an incident in which his insides were twisted until he begged for complete mercy and apologized on his knees to the entire wizarding population, before spiders spilled out of his mouth and his eyes and... Ugh. Alex shivered at the mere thought of the nightmare he had the night before the first day of school.

"So, what do you do?" Alex finally asked. Whether he wanted to tell him or not, Alex was interested. If he wasn't a "cop", then he would stop worrying. But if he were... well, only time will tell how he may react.

Across the table, his guest seemed to be suppressing the urge to squirm. The firewhiskey had probably kicked it and Dimitri was impressed that he could resist running off to gulp down water. It probably wouldn't have helped, but it was the instinct of most people. They only thing Dimitri had found that cured the sting if a firewhiskey was bread. It was bland enough not to mix flavors unpleasantly, but the soft sponginess usually soaked up a little of the burning residue. Dimitri nodded, but didn't look away. It didn't really surprise him that this kid didn't know Amelie. He'd gathered that she ran with a pretty select crowd, mostly slytherins. And he wasn't sure he wanted to encourage him to go find her and say strike up a conversation. His nervousness would probably be taken as a hand delivered invitation to destroy him socially. Either that or she'd lead him on. Neither were very desirable options. Dimitri wouldn't have wished Amelie's attitude on his worst enemy, and the kid sitting across from him might have been suspicious, but he was by no means Dimitri's enemy. Finally he looked up at him as the burn must have subsided.

"Dimitri Van Dael." He said casually, extending his hand to shake Alex's across the table. Somehow it felt like they were teeing off. Like a formality to recognize courtesy between to rivals. It didn't really surprise Dimitri though. It was clear that neither one trusted the other even though Dimitri couldn't put his finger on exactly why. Well, he hadn't trusted Alex because of how nervous he was. That was not a dead give away that he was someone who Dimitri could never be on the same side of the table with. There was still the possibility that he was just a nervous person. Or that he mistook Dimitri as someone else. Someone who would have disciplined him for drinking a firewhiskey, which could have been why he was so determined to hide that his mouth was burning. And why he had chugged it in the first place, and now that he was finished, he was able to act a little more casual. Or maybe it was just that Dimitri was intimidating him with his confidence. Alex would not have been the first person Dimitri had managed to intimidate without trying. But he still needed to look into it. Alex did have one thing going for him though. Nervous as he had been, he had still come up to Dimitri's table. If Dimitri had really startled him that much, it was unlikely that Alex could ever have mustered up the courage to come confront him.

When Alex spoke next it was to ask Dimitri a question that further elevated his suspicions. It was true that he had been very direct in getting down to names, and when he thought about it, there wasn't really any other logical question that Alex could have asked. But it still felt like Alex was trying to get to know him not because he was a charming tablemate, but because he really needed to know. For Dimitri there was only one option. He couldn't tell him that he was an auror. It had become his rule lately. Doing so jeopardized his position as one, as well as whoever he told. There were a lot of people that wanted aurors dead and if they had to take out a few other people in the process then they would. "I write for the Daily Prophet." he lied effortlessly. "I'm doing a story on the public's interpretation of what our paper has already printed about the muggle leak." he said, "...not many people have been so open with me. Have you been keeping up with the articles?" Dimitri himself was a little uncomfortable talking about the stories. He never read them because working in the auror office meant he got all his information first hand. It was difficult to keep what was printed, and what was real straight because the former rarely ever managed to match the latter. But if he was going to be convincing with his lie, he needed to fluff it up a little.

Dimitri Van Dael, Alex repeated in his head over and over again. He had to remember the name, or risk something far more dangerous that would be completely out of his control. Yes, a name was just that important. Staring at the table once again, lost in a trance of thought, he began to think of the lessons he had learned at home. When nervous, you must force yourself to act confident. If you can't force yourself, then speak of a subject you are confident about. The only subject Alex could feel confident about was anything related to the Muggle world - whether it be news, pop culture, history... anything. And until that subject would arise, Alex still remained nervous.

Fortunately, the topic had come up. Raising his head, he looked at Dimitri with a completely different aura emitting from him. He was finally able to muster up enough courage to have a full-blown conversation with him. Maybe this sudden courage which had raised right after the mention of Muggles would seem suspicious, but Dimitri would still have no proof that Alex was doing anything he wasn't supposed to be doing... such as spying. He did not believe that Dimitri was simply a writer for the Daily Prophet, but he went along with it nonetheless.

"It is a delicate topic... But that's interesting, because I write for the Hogwarts Chronicles at school. I do a column called Muggle Madness. I keep up with Muggle News, most of which are related to the magical... our world." Leaning back in his chair, he folded his hands on his chest and looked at Dimitri from across the table. "So I do try to keep up with the articles. My goal for working for the paper, however, is to open up all perspectives - not just one."

Alex wasn't into violence, and he didn't like the killings that the King of England had initiated. Unfortunately, should he argue against the King's wishes, suspicion of his lack of loyalty would rise. And if any conclusions were made of where his loyalty lied, he would have been sent either to prison or execution right away. It was a fate he refused to be bestowed upon him. Instead, he kept his mouth shut and did as he was told - something he was far more than used to doing. Pulling out the most recent Daily Prophet, he leaned forward and pointed to the front page article.

"Twenty-three isn't a massive amount of numbers if you take it to comparison of the wars that Muggles fight. But it really is quite a blow the much smaller wizarding population. Muggles don't know how many of us there are and they are taking drastic actions to keep the numbers as small as possible. Unfortunately, this probably wouldn't be a problem if the King of England would simply make an attempt to speak to one of the Ministry officials, preferably Shacklebolt himself.

"Instead, the King of England sees that fighting is the best and easiest way to go." Alex made sure not to mention the reasons why the King of England had begun attacking the wizarding population, as that information had not yet been released to the public... and Alex was supposed to be blending in. Folding his hands on the table, he looked at Dimitri curiously. This over-confidence he had suddenly gotten was a little overwhelming, even Alex wasn't used to talking this much in one sitting, and he had just said sentences upon sentences of information to a complete stranger who may be after him for one reason or another.

Dimitri swallowed the last sip of his butterbeer, his eyes following the bottle as he set it down slowly onto the table, listening to Alex speak. It seemed that he had suddenly gotten a little more confident, and when Dimitri looked up to confirm his hunch, the fresh tenacity was written all over Alex's face. Considering the circumstances, Dimitri being quite suspicious of the kid already, his new-found determination did nothing to lessen Dimitri's skepticism. Alex seemed oddly knowledgeable on the subject. Well, he must have been, considering his extra curricular work with the paper. But it seemed odd, this passion. There was something discomforting about it that Dimitri couldn't place, and the auror was torn between accepting that Alex might have just been overly-enthusiastic about journalism, or that his motives were ulterior and dangerous. The only thing Dimitri could come to a solid conclusion about was the fact that he had vastly underestimated Alex.

Dimitri too leaned back into a more poised position, but kept his hands folded in front of him on the table. He nodded. "That is a very admirable position to take."Dimitri said thoughtfully. "I cannot speak for the muggles, but I think too many people within the wizarding community have slipped to the extremes, either all for obliterating the non-magical population, or gung ho about integration." He himself was somewhere in the middle. Destroying the muggles would create problems for the wizarding community than it would solve. Sure hiding absolutely everything from them was a hassle, but if it had been done for centuries before this generation, there was no reason for it to become impossible now. And the necessity to keep magic a secret was an integral part in keeping the system together. When the entire magical world was in agreement about at least one thing, that one thing was a very strong bond holding them together. If no one cared who saw them doing magic, wizards and witches would just run around doing magic everywhere. There would be no order.

It would be equally detrimental if there was full disclosure between magic and muggles. Dimitri was not of the belief that muggles were inferior, but clearly magic was something they would have a very hard time wrapping their minds around. They had science to explain everything, but science couldn't explain magic. Alchemy for one was an entirely dead branch of learning in the muggle community. And how would their "science" explain conjuring things out of mid-air? Dimitri, who enjoyed reading muggle science books, knew that one of the "laws" of physics stated that matter could not be created or destroyed. Magic would blow that theory out of the water, and then where would they be? They'd be reduced to pre-Grecian philosophy. It would turn their whole world upside down and that just wouldn't be fair. Not to mention they probably wouldn't accept the existence of dragons very well. It made Dimitri wonder if anyone ever thought about these things when they dove face first into their opinions, considering only their emotions and not the bigger picture.

"Yes well, often it is those who are in power who have the most to lose. The King's rash actions are probably a product of fear..." Dimitri said, reaching into the inner pocket of his jacket. "Incidentally," he continued, pulling out a slim leather bound notepad, "Would you mind terribly if I wrote that down? For the article and all. I don't have to quote you directly if you don't want." That was his story & he was sticking to it...though he was slowly realizing that if Alex agreed he might be watching the Prophet closely to see if the article had included his opinions. Dimitri could probably manage getting the quote printed, but he had no way for anyone to give him credit for their article, and even just having it published was a lot of work for an alibi. But keeping his credibility now was slightly more important than preserving it for a later date.

While it may be true that most members of the wizarding community had gone to the extreme, in the words of Dimitri, what other possible solution could there have been? It was either the complete destruction of either the Muggles or the Wizards, or the integration of both communities. Alex wasn't too familiar with the governmental structure of the wizarding world, but he was well aware that they had, up until last year, kept their identities a secret. Now that the world did know, or is beginning to learn, how could they possibly run away The militia would grow, the knowledge would spread. Soon, it would be inevitable - the wizarding population would be in grave danger.

"I understand that the two situations are a bit, well, extreme. But there's nothing else we can do. As I understand it, we have been hiding for centuries, but never before have the Muggles suspected, let alone discovered, the secrets of our world. We can continue to hide for the rest of our lives - for the rest of our species existence. But people will always be looking for us. People will always seek to destroy us. We only truly have two options, and we have to pick which one we want. Personally, integration seems the most reasonable, but there are still many consequences with that." Of course there were consequences, as there are with any action. Alex could think of many. If integration were to happen, there would be many Muggles who would seek to discover how it works. It could destroy the scientific aspect of everything. Everybody would begin to question religion, science, and ethics... It would be absolutely chaotic. Power-hungry men and leaders would want to learn the magic or get their hands on magical items and artifacts to make themselves more powerful. The Dark Lord that wizards and witches fear would be small in comparison to a Muggle in power.

As he mentioned the King of England being fearful, Alex couldn't help the sudden chill down his spine. He instinctively clenched his first and gritted his teeth as he stared down at the table. How could this wizard know anything about the King and his intentions? How dare he speak out against him in such a negative manner! But if Alex showed any resentment towards Dimitri for speaking of the King that way, then his status would certainly automatically be revealed. Not many wizards or witches, if any, supported the King at this point, although few actively went against him. Taking in a sharp breath, Alex quickly looked back up at Dimitri and smile softly. If he did allow Dimitri to quote him directly, or indirectly, he would more than likely look at the newspaper to see if it would be included in the next issue. If it weren't, then Dimitri had been lying to him - and he must have had a reason for lying. "Of course you may. Quote directly or not."

Leaning forward, he folded his hands on the table and stared directly at Dimitri, with a rather serious facial expression. "But allow me to ask you something... Where do you believe is the safest place for the wizarding world right now?" Whether it was for his own personal knowledge, or that he may share it with the other Muggles at a later date, his main intention of the question was the answer. He was curious. He was well aware that many believed Hogwarts to be the safest place, but without knowing that there are Muggle Spies there, one cannot blame them for such a speculation. But if there another place... another place, possibly the Ministry? Most likely not, but Alex needed and wanted the information.

This was obviously a subject to which Alexander had given a considerable amount of thought, and Dimitri was once again forced to swallow his astonishment like a large uncomfortable pill. What exactly were they teaching the students at Hogwarts these days? Surely not all of them had this extensive knowledge of the impending situation. Alex's opinions were not only intelligent and well composed, but based on actual information, not just biased opinions. When he had sat down across from Dimitri, the auror had assumed, not consciously, that Alex was not particularly bright. There had been several things that gave Dimitri this impression, but chief among them had been the nervous awkwardness; well that and the fact that he'd chugged a firewhiskey, but the latter could be attributed to inexperience with the beverage. At any rate, Dimitri's primary reason for pegging him as an ordinary student had been dashed at the beginning of the interesting part of this conversation, when Alex had taken on a confidence so profoundly substantial that, in combination with his uncanny knowledge of the present catastrophe, suggested to Dimitri that Alex was in fact extraordinary, and very much deserving of his attention.

However, there were a few points on which Dimitri felt obligated to correct him. "The muggles have indeed discovered magic before. Before the statute of secrecy was passed, in fact, they were fully aware of magic. They didn't understand it, but they knew of it. And when they were incapable of explaining it then, they began to fear it, and, in turn, to persecute the magical population. The witch trials, in Salem? I mean, it was less problematic because they didn't know how to kill us, because burning of course wouldn't work, but they knew of it none the less and we managed to turn that around. The only difference between then and now is that muggles will believe anything they see on that picture box." Dimitri said, referring to what the muggles called a television. He was beginning to thoroughly enjoy the little debate they were having, though he'd had to cut himself short, remembering that there was information he should not have been divulging to anyone. Dimitri was of the opinion that the easiest way to solve the problem was to discredit the source: the King and his son. If everyone thought they were a bunch of loony's not only would people question their claims about the magical world and the war they should be waging against it, but question their judgment as it pertained to almost everything else. The chain of command would crumble from the top down and the muggle King would go down in history as a mentally unstable conspiracy theorist at best, and an embezzler at worst - where did all that money go if he wasn't trying to fight they "magic people"?

"And integration, I'm afraid, could only ever happen in a perfect world. Too many people are set in their opinions as it is. Forcing together two groups of people who don't want to accept each other would be like putting beta fish in a bowl together. One of them is going to end up dead. I do not believe mob mentality can be curbed by laws and politicians if the people in the mobs feel strongly enough." he said, taking a pencil out of his pocket - he'd always wondered why the magical community had never picked up the pencil fad. They were much more convenient than a quill. Silently Dimitri flicked his wand at the pencil and it began to scrawl down the conversation, from his memory and then from the actual spoken words. He would have to look over this conversation later. Alex was deserving of a closer look, though at the moment, Dimitri's hunch about him was not well defined, there was just a vague one that told him there was more to Alex than he was letting on. And if nothing else, Alex's last question strengthened the auror's resolve. It was a question that had been floating around a lot lately, with everyone so scared; and it was widely acknowledged that Hogwarts was among the safest. But something about the timing of the question seemed strange. Not to mention, if Alex really believed Dimitri to be a reporter, why would he (Dimitri) have a better idea than anyone else? But then again, perhaps that was his skepticism flaring up again. It was doing so frequently already because the conversation had put Dimitri on high alert. "Probably Azkaban." he joked, hesitant to give a real answer.

Alex was well aware of previous conditions. He knew things that others didn't, as it was his job to be as informational about Muggles as possible. He was placed into Hufflepuff house because his knowledge of the wizarding world was so minimal, but if it were a sorting on Muggle knowledge, he would, without a doubt, be placed into Ravenclaw house and be top of the class. Outside of Hogwarts he was an incredibly shy, but brilliant boy who spent too much of his time reading newspapers and history books. As a child, one of his favorite subjects of history were the witch trials. He found a strange interest in the subject, due to the fact that he knew he was different, but was too afraid to admit it to his parents. The witch trials were not comforting one bit but it made him realize that this type of world truly did exist. Was this a secret hiding where these wizards and witches were held? He began to question society, politics, and the world in general. He began to question how he was living his life.

Shaking his head he eyed Dimitri. "How can you compare these days with the Salem Witch Trials? Because now research in the Muggle World is incredibly. The sciences and inventions and everything in that relation are incomparable to what our people have to offer. Technology doesn't exist in our world, but it does there. Now that their race has grown so much intellectually wise, the chances of them discovering a weakness amongst the the wizard population is far more probable then it was back in that period. If they were to somehow gain entrance into our world, a war would surely break out, and it's hard to say which side would win, because their guns and weapons are rather gruesome."

Of course, Alex wasn't proud to admit that there were some humans that might be as dumb as rocks. Maybe that was why their race was so underestimated - because of their history and modern day actions. Sure, people would believe anything that the newspaper says these days. There are very few that would dare question authority or the political system. But the few that do are the intellectual ones, and are the ones who deserve more praise them celebrities and such. The social system was messed up and even in the Wizarding World it was the same. The celebrities of the Potter family. Alex had met the youngest daughter of the family, Lily Potter, and anticipates on befriending her. Possibly he could get something from that.

However, integration was really the only probable solution in Alex's mind. He wanted the best for both worlds, if possible. If the Muggles discovered a way to break through the magical barriers that currently surrounded the world, then integration was going to be the only peaceful resolution. "Unfortunately, if they were to discover where we are, then integration would be the only peaceful way to go about it. But it's strange, the wizarding world. I find it quite amazing that magic was developed in such a way to only allow magical users into the wizarding world. I really wonder how it works!" Of course, Alex wanted to know primarily to let the King know how to get Muggle inside, but, maybe nobody knew how it worked? Maybe it was impossible to break.

Nodding his head slightly, he thought about Azkaban. Azkaban was the Wizarding Prison that most people feared. There were these creautres called Dementors that roamed through the prison to ensure nobody tried to escape. Sometimes they were used as a punishment. It was a fate worse than death. Alex had to smile as he thought of the place. "Ah, so you wouldn't think it was Hogwarts? For some reason, I have to agree with you. I feel like infiltrating Azkaban would be far more difficult than getting into Hogwarts. But let's hope that never happens!" Alex chuckled lightly as he eyed Dimitri once again. He was giving him far too many hints at this point, and the realization that he may get caught was once again rising. His confidence wasn't going to dwindle, but his nervousness hadn't quite escaped yet. He drummed his fingers on the table as he began to look around The Three Broomsticks as opposed to meeting Dimtiri's eye.
